6 Reasons To Choose Partial Dentures

If you've lost one or more teeth, then you might ask your dentist to fit partial dentures. These false teeth work well when you have natural teeth with gaps between them. The dentures fill these gaps and attach to adjacent teeth.

When should you choose partial dentures?

1. You Aren't Happy With Your Smile

If you have a missing tooth, then you might be self-conscious about the gap the tooth left behind. Even if the gap is at the back of your mouth and isn't easily visible, you might feel that people can see it.

Gaps can sap your self-confidence and self-esteem. You might smile less and worry about what people think about you.

Partial dentures fill these gaps and give you back your smile. You'll feel more confident and less anxious.

2. You Find it Hard to Eat Naturally

You need a full set of teeth to eat normally. Each tooth helps you break up food and chew it.

If you have a missing tooth, then you lose an eating surface. You don't have a tooth to chew on in this spot, so you might end up eating on your gum.

This feels unnatural. Your gum will likely hurt when you eat something hard. You might even start to avoid eating foods that are difficult to chew.

Partial dentures give you replacement teeth. They make it easier to eat more naturally and comfortably.

3. You Want to Fill Gaps Fast

If you want to replace a missing tooth, then you might prefer to do this sooner rather than later for cosmetic reasons. Moving fast also has dental health benefits.

If you leave a gap open for too long, then other teeth in the area will move to fill the space. Your facial structure might change if it loses a tooth's support, and you could lose bone density in your jaw around the gap.

While bridges and implants fill gaps effectively and prevent these problems, they take time. For example, implant treatments can take months.

Partial dentures are a faster solution. Once your dentist takes a mold or scan of your gap, you simply wait for them to make the dentures and fit them. You'll restore your smile faster and avoid future problems with your teeth, facial structure, and bone density.

4. You Aren't a Suitable Candidate for Implants

You might have already investigated replacing a missing tooth with an implant. However, not all patients can have this procedure. If you have reduced bone density in the area, then an implant has a higher risk of failure. Your dentist might not recommend this solution.

Partial dentures are a viable alternative to implants. Your bone density doesn't affect your ability to wear dentures.

5. You Don't Want an Invasive Treatment

Some people have health complications or anxieties about invasive dental treatments. For example, bleeding disorders and adverse reactions to anesthesia can complicate some surgical procedures. Some patients are working hard to overcome dental anxieties but aren't yet ready to have a more complex treatment.

If you want to replace a missing tooth but prefer a non-invasive treatment, then partial dentures are an ideal solution. You won't need any anesthesia, drilling, or surgery. Your dentist simply orders your dentures and fits them.

6. You Want a More Affordable Solution

Replacing a tooth can be a financial headache. If you don't have insurance, then you must find the money for your treatment.

Even if you do have dental coverage, your insurance company might not pay for all your treatment. Insurers often classify tooth replacement procedures as major or cosmetic services. They might only cover part of your costs, leaving you to fund the rest of your treatment.

Partial dentures are a cost-effective solution. They are less expensive than other options such as implants. This will keep your costs as low as possible.
